Dr. Yanming Li received his Master’s degree (2005) and PhD degree (2009) in Electronic Science and Technology from Xidian University. Since his postgraduate studies, he has been extensively involved in R&D and engineering management in multinational enterprises, accumulating more than ten years of experience in product development and project management. This has laid a solid foundation for his research, teaching, and talent cultivation. His research group maintains long-term industry–academia–research collaborations with multiple technology enterprises and institutes, generating abundant engineering case studies, practical opportunities, and highly skilled graduates who are well recognized by employers.

Research Interests

Dr. Li conducts research in the following areas:

  • State estimation and health management of lithium-ion and emerging energy-storage batteries

  • Intelligent embedded systems and new energy applications

  • Intelligent algorithm modeling and prediction of complex systems

  • Hardware–software co-design for artificial intelligence

  • Power electronics and intelligent control for renewable energy

  • Design and applications of mixed-signal integrated circuits

He has published over 60 papers in international leading journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, Measurement, Reliability Engineering & System Safety, IEEE Sensors Journal, IET Power Electronics, IET Circuits, Devices & Systems, Microelectronics Journal, and Journal of Semiconductors. He has been granted more than 100 invention patents.

Dr. Li has led key provincial R&D and Natural Science Foundation projects, Xi’an municipal science and technology projects, and multiple enterprise-sponsored pre-research topics. He has also participated in several National Natural Science Foundation and provincial-level projects. More than 40 specialized integrated circuit (IC) chips he designed have entered commercial mass production, with cumulative shipments exceeding hundreds of millions of units.

Research Group and Facilities

Through years of accumulation, Dr. Li’s research group has established a comprehensive and efficient talent cultivation model, equipped with:

  • Advanced design tools and capabilities seamlessly aligned with industry needs

  • High-performance testing facilities (battery test systems, DC electronic loads, programmable power supplies, impedance and temperature analyzers, environmental chambers, automated testing machines)

  • Product-level fabrication and analysis environments

  • Real-world application scenarios and sufficient funding support

The lab collaborates with Xi’an Xunpai Fast-Charging Technology Co., Ltd., sharing a high-power fast-charging experimental platform and vehicle-level test benches. In embedded systems and AI platforms, the lab is equipped with high-performance servers, deep learning platforms, robotics training platforms, and a wide range of embedded development kits (MCU, DSP, FPGA, PLC), enabling efficient deployment of intelligent algorithms in low-power systems. The group has also built large-scale battery big data and deep learning datasets for intelligent diagnosis and prediction.

In addition, the lab is equipped with advanced mixed-signal and IC design/testing facilities (network analyzers, signal generators, logic analyzers, precision source meters, probe stations, chip fabrication tools) and has co-established joint laboratories with Texas Instruments and Xilinx, providing strong support for interdisciplinary research and high-level engineering practice.

They actively participate in international conferences and have consistently demonstrated strong competitiveness in both academia and industry. Graduates supervised by Dr. Li have secured excellent employment opportunities, often competing successfully with peers from top-tier universities (985 institutions).

The group has long-standing collaborations with Xi’an Jiaotong University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), Xidian University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, University of Macau, and State Grid Corporation laboratories, covering joint research, project development, and doctoral co-supervision.

As a course instructor for innovation and entrepreneurship at Chang’an University, he has mentored multiple projects under the Challenge Cup and the National Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program, all of which were successfully completed with high quality. He has also participated in national-level entrepreneurship education training programs for faculty, earning multiple certifications and awards, including Outstanding Thesis Supervisor and Advanced Individual in Science and Technology Work.
